We’re building an orphanage!

Friends of India is actively raising funds to complete the construction of an orphanage in Tuticorin, Southern India. The orphanage is currently home to 30 girls, but with your support, we have the potential to expand the facility to accommodate up to 100 girls, providing a safe and nurturing environment for them to grow.

The orphanage is run by a dedicated team of widows who serve not only as caregivers but also as a family and support system for the girls. This project not only provides these young girls with a home, but also offers widows meaningful employment in a society where opportunities for work can be limited after losing a spouse.

In addition to the expanded living quarters, we would also like to build a skills training hall on the property. This space will be equipped with sewing machines, a classroom, and a library, allowing the girls to learn valuable life skills such as tailoring, basic business practices, and literacy. These skills will empower them to become self-sufficient, giving them the tools to create brighter futures for themselves without needing to rely on others such as a husband.

To make this vision a reality, we are currently fundraising for this. If you can help in any way at all, your generosity will help us provide these girls with not just a place to live, but a foundation for lifelong success.
